โ ๏ธ Star count / version info may change over time; this article reflects the public data at the time of writing
Prerequisite: readers are assumed to know the Agent Skills open standard; this article focuses on taste-skill technical details
๐ท๏ธ One-line positioning #
Taste-Skill โ gives your AI good taste. stops the AI from generating boring, generic slop
Packages “design taste” into a portable skill, so AI generates frontends that avoid generic AI slop.
๐ฆ Basic info #
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Project | Leonxlnx/taste-skill |
| Positioning | Anti-Slop Frontend Framework for AI Agents |
| Popularity | โญ 88.8k stars ยท ๐ด 6k forks ยท 279 watching |
| License | MIT License ยท Copyright (c) 2026 Leonxlnx |
| Website | tasteskill.dev |
| Current version | taste-skill defaults to v2 (experimental), iterating toward v2.0.0 stable |
| Compatibility | Agent Skills standard ยท Claude Code / Codex / Cursor / ChatGPT etc. (framework agnostic) |
๐ง Installation #
Install everything (scans the skills/ directory in the repo):
npx skills add https://github.com/Leonxlnx/taste-skill
Install a single skill (use the name: field from the SKILL.md frontmatter, not the folder name):
npx skills add https://github.com/Leonxlnx/taste-skill --skill "design-taste-frontend"
- v2 is the default; the install name is unchanged, so re-running the command upgrades in place; to lock the original v1, use
--skill "design-taste-frontend-v1" - You can also copy the
SKILL.mddirectly into your project, or paste it into a ChatGPT / Codex conversation
๐๏ธ Adjustable dials (Settings, taste-skill only) #
Three 1โ10 numeric dials at the top of the file:
| Dial | Controls | Low value | High value |
|---|---|---|---|
DESIGN_VARIANCE | layout experimentation | centered / clean | asymmetric / modern |
MOTION_INTENSITY | motion depth | hover | scroll / magnetic |
VISUAL_DENSITY | info density per viewport | airy | dense dashboard |
๐ง v2 core mechanism #
Reads the brief โ infers the design language โ adjusts the three dials.
| Section | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Section 0 | Brief Inference |
| Section 2 | Design-System Map |
| Section 8 | Dark Mode Protocol |
| Section 11 | Redesign Protocol |
| Section 12 | Block Library schema |
| Section 13 | Out-of-Scope |
| Section 14 | Pre-Flight Check |
| Section 9.G | em-dash fully banned |
๐ซ Anti-slop measures #
- An 18-item “AI tells” checklist
- Hard bans (production-tested): section number eyebrow labels, version tags, photo credit captions, decorative hero bars, pills on images, locale bars, scroll cues, decorative dots, divider overuse
- Consistency locks: color / shape / theme
- Layout discipline: hero discipline, bento grid-count rules, italic descender clearance
- Defaults to Tailwind v4; recommends Motion (formerly Framer Motion) for animation
๐ Skills family (10 code + 3 imagegen) #
Implementation skills (produce code) #
| Skill | Install name | Use |
|---|---|---|
| taste-skill | design-taste-frontend | ๐ v2 default general-purpose |
| taste-skill-v1 | design-taste-frontend-v1 | original v1 (for pinning) |
| gpt-tasteskill | gpt-taste | stricter version for GPT/Codex |
| image-to-code-skill | image-to-code | image โ analyze โ implement |
| redesign-skill | redesign-existing-projects | audit then fix existing projects |
| soft-skill | high-end-visual-design | understated, luxurious, spring motion |
| output-skill | full-output-enforcement | prevents half-finished output |
| minimalist-skill | minimalist-ui | Notion/Linear minimal style |
| brutalist-skill | industrial-brutalist-ui | Swiss typography, hard mechanical |
| stitch-skill | stitch-design-taste | Google Stitch compatible + DESIGN.md export |
Image generation skills (produce reference images only, not code) #
| Skill | Install name | Use |
|---|---|---|
| imagegen-frontend-web | imagegen-frontend-web | website comps (hero / landing / multi-section) |
| imagegen-frontend-mobile | imagegen-frontend-mobile | mobile screens and flows (iOS / Android) |
| brandkit | brandkit | brand kit boards (logo / palette / typeface) |
Selection guide #
- Start with taste-skill by default (safest, general-purpose); use taste-skill-v1 for the original behavior; gpt-taste for stricter output
- Fixing an existing codebase โ redesign-skill; visual direction already decided โ add soft / minimalist / brutalist; agent keeps truncating โ output-skill
- If the deliverable is an image โ use the imagegen series, then hand the frames to Codex / Cursor / Claude Code
- For image-to-code-skill, remember to state the flow explicitly in the prompt:
follow the skill: generate images, then analyze, then code
โ FAQ #
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Difference vs other AI design skills? | multiple specialized variants, tunable dials on key skills, anti-repetition rules grounded in dedicated research, framework agnostic across agents |
| Supports React/Vue/Svelte? | Yes; the rules target design intent, not a single framework’s API |
What is SKILL.md? | a portable instruction file the agent auto-loads |
Is imagegen installed via npx skills add too? | Yes; discovered under skills/ by the same CLI |
๐ Research data #
Background research lives in research/: four subdirectories โ root-causes/, remediation/, findings/, laziness/ (the basis for the anti-slop rules).
